FRANCE / RankWire.AI / – Renault Group plans to invest more than €10 billion in France over the next five years. Chief Executive François Provost announced the commitment on October 3. The spending will support electric vehicles and lower-cost models. Renault made about 500,000 vehicles in France during 2025. The company expects French production to increase by at least 25% in 2026. Provost said the investment commitment depends on stable social and political conditions in the country.

Renault Group has already invested €13 billion in France since 2021. That spending has supported factories, electric vehicle production and related industrial operations. In July 2026, Renault said it had produced one million electric vehicles in France since 2010. Its ElectriCity manufacturing hub in northern France accounted for about 600,000 of those vehicles. Renault employs nearly 39,000 people in France. The company also says its domestic operations support around 35,000 jobs across its supplier network.

Renault operates a broad manufacturing base across France. Its assembly plants include Douai, Maubeuge, Dieppe, Batilly and Sandouville. Other sites in Cléon, Ruitz, Le Mans and Flins provide mechanical and industrial support. Douai builds the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, while Maubeuge produces the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Renault also manufactures electric commercial vehicles at several French facilities. The network forms a central part of the automaker’s electric vehicle production in its home market.

Electric car registrations climb in France

Battery electric vehicles took 42% of new passenger car registrations in France during September. That marked a record monthly share for fully electric cars in the country. France registered 156,629 new passenger cars during the month, an increase of about 12% from a year earlier. Battery electric models represented about 31% of registrations during the first nine months of 2026. Their share stood near 18% during the same period a year earlier.

Renault’s production outlook comes as electric vehicles account for a larger part of the French car market. The company expects output from its French plants to rise at least 25% this year. In July, Renault also outlined €13 billion in additional investment in France under its futuREady plan, subject to appropriate conditions. Provost’s October comments put the current five-year commitment at more than €10 billion. Both statements follow the €13 billion Renault has invested domestically since 2021.

French plants anchor Renault electric output

Renault’s ElectriCity sites at Douai and Maubeuge had produced about 600,000 electric vehicles by July 2026. Production of the Renault 5 E-Tech electric passed 100,000 units by the end of 2025. Maubeuge also builds the Renault 4 E-Tech electric and electric commercial models. Renault said ElectriCity added 700 permanent jobs between 2022 and 2025. The company had also added 550 temporary workers at Douai by July as production activity increased.

The new investment commitment adds to Renault Group’s existing spending across its French industrial network. Since 2021, the automaker has directed €13 billion toward operations linked to electric vehicle manufacturing and related activities. Renault now expects substantially higher domestic vehicle output in 2026 than in 2025. François Provost said the next five years of spending will center on electric vehicles and more affordable cars. The announcement comes during a year of record monthly electric vehicle market share in France.
